Our collaborative program with Bucksport Bay Healthy Communities Coalition and the town of Bucksport is off to a great start! We are doing modifications to enhance safety and accessibility to the homes of elderly homeowners in Bucksport, free of charge to the homeowner, thanks to the generosity of Hammond Lumber in Bucksport and a grant from the town to cover materials costs.
Since we launched in mid-July, we have received 5 applications and 4 were approved! Work has been completed on two homes and these residents had a lot to say.
"Thank you so much for coming out and helping with my front steps. They are sturdy and solid and the hand rail doesn't wobble a bit anymore. I was so worried about falling during the winter and now I feel safe."
"What a lovely thing it is you are doing! I can't say enough how much I appreciate it. The gentleman that did the work on my house was very kind and respectful. He did a great job!"
