Combs family on hand on May 28th at the mock wall raising by MDI High who recently completed the 7th set of interior & exterior walls for a Hancock Co. HFH home.

Habitat for Humanity was founded as an ecumenical, non-profit ministry based on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety. Worldwide, Habitat affiliates improve people’s housing conditions through new home construction, rehabilitation, incremental improvements, repairs or increased access to improved shelter through partnerships with the private sector.

Partnering with economically disadvantaged individuals and families, Hancock County Habitat seeks to eliminate poverty housing and to make decent, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action.

Through monetary and in-kind donations, volunteer labor, and each partner’s “sweat equity", we are able to complete projects which are then financed under affordable mortgage loans.

All donations are tax deductible to the extent provided by law. Hancock County Habitat for Humanity, with employer identification number 01-0443774, is considered a subordinate under the group tax exemption umbrella of our parent organization, Habitat for Humanity International, Inc. (“HFHI”) under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The group exemption number assigned to HFHI by the IRS is 8545, and their EIN is 91-1914868.

Our organization doesn’t appear on the IRS’s Exempt Organizations Select Check site [https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/exempt-organizations-select-check] as we are a subordinate under Habitat for Humanity International and fall under their group exemption number, searchable by their EIN. (A few other Maine affiliates actually do appear separately, which can get a bit confusing!)

This quote really underscores the meaning and desired outcome of our home-building ministry: “I have come to believe that I belong—which is as much a part of Habitat as the homeownership.
