2021 Habitat Golf Tournament COVID-related Cancellation
It is with regret that we announce the cancellation of the planned October 2, 2021, Swing for Habitat Golf Tournament outing. Our committee members have worked tirelessly toward the goal of holding the annual event, but the rise of the Delta variant, increased transmissibility even among the vaccinated, and the timing of the end of the busy summer travel season + the start of the school year lead us to the conclusion that we should not hold our event in 2021. The safety and well-being of our community, our Partners, volunteers, supporters, and our staff remains a priority, and we believe this decision will help to cut down on potential community spread.
As organizers, we had already decided against certain defining features of the event for 2021 in order to decrease risks. However, with the uptick in cases and spread, we were faced with the possibility of needing to implement additional safeguards. Aware that these measures might not go far enough for some but might feel much too restrictive for others, we were also conscious of the fact that the structuring of the event wouldn’t have allowed for the type of camaraderie and interactions that our participants normally so enjoy. We will miss seeing so many familiar faces this fall, but we can’t wait to have you join us all again in 2022!
Please watch this space for alternative fundraising ideas to help support Habitat’s mission.
We appreciate your kindness and understanding regarding this difficult decision. Wishing you and your loved ones health and safety.
Please note: We will be issuing refunds to those who have already registered as players for the event and will be reaching out to sponsors to offer the same and/or to see if those donors would like to have their sponsorship applied as a general contribution to our work in the community. Many thanks to you and all of our supporters! …And a special thanks to the crew at the Northeast Harbor Golf Club.
HospitalityMaine (formerly Maine Innkeepers) Fundraiser: Happening each spring, “Hospitality for Habitat” was inspired by Marian Burns, former owner of Mira Monte
Inn and Suites in Bar Harbor. Since its first year, the innkeepers and their patrons have raised the equivalent of the cost of almost two whole Habitat homes! In 2021 alone, HospitalityMainne raised over $26,000 for the Maine Habitat affiliates!

Regarding the partnership, Kathleen Pierce, Director of Member Experience, shared, “Affordable housing is one of the many pain points right now for the hospitality industry as it struggles to maintain its seasonal workforce. To be able to give back to such a crucial mission feels right.” Hancock County Habitat for Humanity is very grateful to the leadership of Hospitality Maine, the participating innkeepers, and for all the good folks that visit the inns each year.
Typically held in late April through early May, participating member properties offer a designated number of their rooms at half the regular rate, in exchange for a $35 check payable to Habitat for Humanity.
